NRC gives RFS little hope for 2022 deadlines

Certain Biofuel Mandates Unlikely to Be Met by 2022 Unless New Technologies, Policies Developed

The National Research Council expects the RFS to miss 2022 targets for advanced and cellulosic biofuels unless researchers and government develop better technologies and policies in the near future.

This report presents a pretty negative sentiment for investors and government officials making claims that advanced biofuels are going to commercialize in the next several years.

One Response to NRC gives RFS little hope for 2022 deadlines

  1. Paul says:

“RFS2 may be an ineffective policy for reducing global GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions because the effect of biofuels on GHG emissions depends on how the biofuels are produced and what land-use or land-cover changes occur in the process.”

As far as I know, the EPA tries to included land use change calculations in its GHG calculations, so it would seem to still be an effective tool.
